Our large department (in excess of 100 staff covering a population of approx 540,000) provides a wide range of services for the Grampian Region and beyond and includes a comprehensive range of bacteriology and virology diagnostic tests and techniques. The department is an Institute of Biomedical Science approved training laboratory for HCPC registration and Specialist portfolio.

Applications are invited for the above full time post (37.5 hours a week over 5 days).  As a Band 7 BMS, you will have current registration with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist, with extensive post registration experience within a healthcare setting microbiology laboratory. The post holder will be a permanent member of the Department of Microbiology and will participate in the out of hours shift system including as team leader. The role will involve day to day supervision of the technical diagnostic Bacteriology Laboratory located within the Department of Microbiology.
You will have an MSc (or equivalent qualification or experience). You will have proven scientific, technical and communication skills in association with a commitment to training, quality management, continuous professional development, health & safety and audit. You must be well motivated and enthusiastic with excellent leadership qualities and organisational skills. You will have a very good understanding of how to deliver a service that meets the ISO 15189:2012 standard

You will be joining our friendly team to assist and provide leadership, strategy and day to day support to the Microbiology team. You will work closely with the Laboratory Management Team to ensure that the high quality service is maintained and bring ideas from your extensive experience to help shape the future of the laboratory. Good communication, interpersonal skills and a commitment to team working are essential.  CPD and attendance at meetings, both internal and external, are all actively encouraged.
