As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services.  Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.

 

This post, covering Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, provides a challenging role for a suitably experienced and motivated medical laboratory professional able to work in a busy and changing environment.  Supporting the Regional Head of Service you will be responsible for the day to day activities of the Raigmore Hospital Blood Bank and Red Cell Immunohaematology Sections providing a regional reference service for the surrounding hospitals in Red Cell Serology. The base for the post is negotiable but the post holder will require to be based in the Inverness site a minimum of 3 days per week.  

Applicants should be a current member of Health and Care Professions Council and able to demonstrate success in a supervisory role within a critical laboratory service operating to tight deadlines. You will have a wealth of experience of working in a red cell serology environment with an in depth knowledge of blood transfusion and will be able to demonstrate your ability to absorb current and new developments in the field of transfusion associated activities. A Post graduate professional qualification or equivalent experience within Transfusion Science would be beneficial to the role, which will align with technical abilities to support service delivery; in parallel it’s important that you have a proven track record in management, leadership, teaching abilities as well as your awareness of the importance of meeting our customers’ and stakeholders needs.  

The post requires close Multidisciplinary team working and excellent interpersonal skills and you will be required to work flexibly to meet the SNBTS corporate objectives.

Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
