The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist within Psychology Services in NHS Lanarkshire on 12 month fixed-term basis. We have scope for a 1.0wte Band 8A post.
0.7wte of the post is within our motivated and innovative psychology service delivering a clinical service within HMP Shotts. The successful applicant will support the service lead in the delivery and governance of a high quality psychology service within in HMP Shotts. They will work alongside psychology colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team providing assessment, care and treatment to individuals currently in prison. The post holder will be expected to undertake assessment, formulation and provide psychological therapies to service users and to offer indirect intervention, where appropriate. They will also be involved in promoting psychologically informed approaches, provide teaching/ training, supervision and consultation to other professionals, and encouraged to have involvement in quality improvement and research.
0.3 wte of the post will be to provide input to the acute psychiatric inpatient wards in University Hospital Wishaw. The role will be to provide both direct and indirect psychological work for a range of presentations. There will be the opportunity for staff training, consultancy and service development.
The post holder will be line managed by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist within the respective services. The post holder will have regular supervision and access to continuing professional development. Please note the attached job descriptions are generic one.

What we'll need you to bring
Have a Post Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and be a Registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK.
Complete further courses of additional learning as relevant to the clinical skills required for the post and identified as significant in the Personal Development Plan, and have accredited training in the supervision of Post Graduate clinical trainees.
Have knowledge of NHSL Health Board's Policies and Procedures, and national and professional guidelines for optimal standards of clinical care e.g. child protection guidelines.
Have knowledge of psychiatry and other related professions in order to understand complex clinical presentations.
Work in a sensitive manner with respect to diversity and gender, ethnic, culture and philosophical issues with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
Be aware of the limits of one's competence and expertise.
Maintain and update knowledge of legislation and local policies and issues in relation to Adult Mental Health generally.
Attend in-house and external mandatory training courses (e.g.) computer training, Moving and Handling, Management of Aggression and Violence, etc.
Be aware of the need to deploy valuable Health Service resources in an effective and rational manner according to contemporary evidence-based practice.
Possess a full driving licence.

It would be great if you also have
Training in personality assessment and/or therapies relevant to the context
Evidence of experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
Experience in working with prisons, forensic or other complex populations
Evidence of supervising Doctoral and/or Masters level psychology trainees
Evidence of an interest in and experience of working with clients with complex psychological difficulties/co-morbidity/offending behaviour
Specialist knowledge of neuropsychological function as well as brain anatomy and function
Specialist knowledge of forensic mental health
Good assessment, formulation and therapeutic skills

Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
Location and Working Pattern
This role will be based in HMP Shotts and also within University Hospital Wishaw.
The working pattern for this role Mon-Fri; 9:00-5:00.
