The band 8A Lead Acute Oncology ANP is an experienced ANP who has an essential advanced clinical role and is also responsible for leading, managing and developing staff within the Acute Oncology Assessment unit, as well as leading and managing the outreach Acute Oncology Service at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and development of other AO services across Greater Glasgow and Clyd (GGC).  

The AOAU provides unscheduled care to patients presenting/becoming unwell in out- patient and day case treatment areas, as well as those accessing services via the Cancer Treatment Helpline. A nurse led model of care underpins the AOAU which is run by experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners. Staff in the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit (AOAU) work collaboratively to assess and manage unwell patients with cancer whilst ensuring timely referral to appropriate level of medical staff and admission of patients to an inpatient ward where appropriate. Where possible, patients will be managed as day cases and discharged home.  Applications are sought from experienced ANPs within an acute care or oncology speciality, who have substantial experience, some of which must be as a senior nurse. Competence in the provision of acute care/oncology to the highest standard is required, as  well  as  evidence  of  sound  clinical  decision  making  as  an  ANP.   Substantial leadership and management experience within an appropriate clinical environment is essential together with knowledge and training equivalent to masters level.  You must have completed clinical assessment course and NMP training. Ward and staff management experiencdesirableApplicantmust also have  excellent communicatioskillto support working across professional boundaries.  It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and provide evidence of continuing professional development.  The shift pattern for this post is Monday - Friday 8-12 hours shifts.
