Entry Criteria for a Specialty Doctor:
A dentist appointed to this grade:

  • shall be registered and have a Licence to Practice with the General Dental Council (GDC);

And

  • shall have completed four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) since first obtaining registration, including adequate experience in the relevant specialty;

Or

  • shall have equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas.


Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Lauriston Buildings.

We are seeking a full time Specialty Dentist for Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery to fill a total of 10 sessions available within the Edinburgh Dental Institute for a 12 month period.

This Specialty Dentist post offers an opportunity for the appointee to contribute to the delivery of a tiered, consultant-led Oral Medicine service, with sessions in the Oral Surgery service at the Edinburgh Dental Institute (EDI). They will work 10 PAs with the days of work to be agreed with the Clinical Director.

The post holder will be responsible to Lorraine Canning, Clinical Services Manager and Professional Leads William Harrison and Laura Bryce and will work with colleagues within Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery and the wider Dental Institute.

Appropriately experienced applicants must have full registration with the General Dental Council, and have completed at least 3 years full-time postgraduate training with demonstrable experience of supporting patients in Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery. The post start date can be flexible.
