Applications are invited for the position of Medical Laboratory Assistant. This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic person to work in a busy department which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Highland.
The laboratory forms part of the recently developed NHS Highland Area Blood Sciences service. It processes in excess of 50,000 requests per annum covering haematology, biochemistry and blood transfusion. Requests come from the Rural General Hospital, the Community Hospitals, and GP Surgeries in Caithness and East Sutherland. The successful candidate will be expected to rotate through all areas of the laboratory, often without direct supervision, and participate in Quality training and compliance.
We are looking for a member of staff that can demonstrate team spirit, initiative and has the enthusiasm to train further. You will be in a post that rotates through Blood Sciences, including Pre-analytical areas, Haematology and Biochemistry. You will also be expected to support the professional scientific staff in delivering the analytical services and to carry out general laboratory duties, and to assist with the preparation and receipt of patient samples for analysis.
Previous experience and employment in a hospital environment is desirable, but not essential. Occasional Public Holiday working will be required. You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
This is a part-time permanent post of 20 hours per week, to be worked in accordance with service requirements.
