Are you looking for a fulfilling role in a breathtaking coastal location? Join our friendly and inviting Team in Carradale, Southend, Muasdale, and Gigha — picturesque villages and islands on the beautiful west coast, known for their welcoming communities.
This is an exciting opportunity as we are building a new team of salaried General Practitioners. There will be the opportunity to get involved in Quality Improvement Projects with a focus on enhancing patient experience and streamlining the processes in the practices.
Locations
Carradale, Muasdale and Southend are on the stunning west coast of Scotland, situated on the Kintyre peninsula. The peninsula offers beautiful and varied views, sandy beaches, rivers, lochs and forests, all dissected by the Kintyre Way. Various arts and festivals take place throughout the year, and a particularly lively music culture is evident.
The allure of this location is found in the warm and hospitable demeanour of its residents, complemented by a relaxed and rewarding lifestyle.
The area, surrounded by sandy beaches, provides an ideal setting for a variety of water sports. For those seeking adventure, local wild swimming groups offer opportunities to embrace the elements.
The Kintyre Way is an essential experience for avid walkers. This 7-stage, waymarked trail traverses the picturesque Kintyre peninsula, spanning 100 miles from Tarbert to Southend.
The villages of Muasdale and Southend are equidistant to Campbeltown, which is the largest town on the Kintyre peninsula. Carradale is a 16 mile drive from Campbeltown on the East Coast of the Peninsula. Campbeltown is a two-hour drive from Oban and 3 hours from Glasgow. A daily flight, Mon-Fri and summertime also on Sunday, from Machrihanish Airport can transport you to Glasgow Airport within 30 minutes and offers an opportunity to take in some spectacular views as you fly over the Isle of Arran. Northern Ireland is accessible by our seasonal passenger ferry from Campbeltown to Ballycastle. The Isle of Arran is accessible by a year round car ferry, and there is also the option of reaching Glasgow and Ayrshire via ferry links. The Isle of Gigha is linked to the mainland by way of a shuttle ferry on the hour every day.
Community Amenities
Carradale and surrounding area boasts a well-stocked community shop, a post office, a pub, restaurant, Skipness seafood cabin, cafes, a craft shop, and a frequently utilized village hall as well as Torrisdale Estate and gin distillery. A variety of interests are supported by numerous active clubs and groups. Additionally, the village features both a golf course and a picturesque harbour and golden sands of Carradale Bay.

Portavadie is accessible on a 30-minute ferry from Tarbert. Portavadie is famous for its modern marina, boasting protected deep-water berths and exceptional, purpose-built amenities. This Five Gold Anchor award-winning marina acts as the entrance to some of the most exquisite sailing waters along Scotland's west coast. Educational Opportunities
Glenbarr and the surrounding areas, including Tarbert and Campbeltown, offer access to several primary schools and nurseries. Notably, Carradale Primary School features an adjoining pre-school nursery. The limited enrolment at these schools allows for considerable individual attention for each child. At Carradale, outdoor learning activities are highly encouraged, with students even growing their own food, which is later used in the kitchen.
A well-loved addition in Carradale is the Woodland School. This is an educational approach that focuses on outdoor learning and connecting with nature which is held weekly during school holidays.
Secondary education can be pursued at either Campbeltown Grammar or Tarbert Academy. School buses are available to facilitate transportation.
About Our Practices
Carradale Surgery and Kintyre Medical Group work closely with the local Community Hospital in Campbeltown. Campbeltown Hospital provides A&E/Out-of-hours cover, overseen by our GP colleagues at Campbeltown Medical Practice. The hospital provides outreach clinics from both Oban and Glasgow Hospitals, along with exceptional care from our physiotherapy team, maternity unit, and Community Nursing teams.
Though all the practices in this linked group are dispensing practices, there are close links with Campbeltown, Tarbert and Mid-Argyll Pharmacy teams.
