The Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) Programme is a national, licensed, evidence based, early intervention programme for first time mothers up to the age of 24, with priority to those aged 19 or under. It offers intensive and structured home visiting, delivered by specially trained nurses, from early pregnancy until the child is 2 years old.


NHS Tayside is looking for an excellent individual to provide compassionate care, Leadership and Management to the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) service. The service is currently part of the Nursing & Midwifery Directorate with plans to transfer to the Women, Children & Families Division. This division is made up of different services; Midwifery, Neonates, Paediatrics and Complex Disabilities, Health Visiting, School Nursing, and Care Experienced Children Services.


We are looking for an experienced leader who will contribute to the strategic planning across early years services and work closely with key stakeholders and colleagues to ensure the FNP service is delivered safely and effectively  ensuring fidelity to the programme’s licensing requirements. The FNP supervisor role is instrumental in embedding a culture of excellence in care and ensuring the regulatory, quality, workforce, performance and finance standards are met.  In addition the Supervisor will, line  manage the work of a team of Family Nurse’s, provide in depth supervision, facilitate continual learning and service improvement, hold a small caseload of clients and work as part of a team with the other Family Nurse Supervisors

The post holder will be a first level Registered Nurse or Midwife with current NMC registration, educated to Degree level or equivalent with evidence of Masters level education. The post holder should have broad experience in areas such as Health Visiting, Public Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery or Paediatric Nursing within a community setting. Applicants should demonstrate that they have strong leadership, management, supervisory skills, a passion for the FNP philosophy and its strength based approach.


Please Note:

The successful applicant will be required to undertake all mandatory training to become a Family Nurse Supervisor and where applicable also the  Family Nurse  mandatory training  and be available to:

  • Attend all supervisor training events including 2 night residential 4th-6th August  2020
  • Where applicable attend all Family Nurse training events including 4 night residential training on 7th-11th September 2020.
