Apprentice Maintenance Electrician
Suitable for school leavers
Grade: Band 4 (Annex U)*

Contract Duration: Fixed Term for 4 Years
Salary Scale: £14,554.00 per annum
*Please note this is a Trainee post, therefore Annex U applies*
For trainees covered by Annex U where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:
- up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
- more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
- more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
- more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.

1st Stage

2nd Stage
After the closing date we will review all applications, selecting those who will progress forward to the 2nd stage which is an Aptitude & Situational Judgement Test.
3rd Stage
At this stage we will have selected the final candidates for interview. The interview will take place at our Royal Edinburgh Hospital site.
The successful applicant will be required to train as an apprentice Electrician, attaining the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience to become a fully qualified and competent trade’s person. The apprenticeship scheme is run in conjunction with a training provider and Further Education College to ensure the applicant is supported through a high quality training programme. Training normally takes a period of 4 years.
During the programme the post holder will work towards achieving an SVQ 3 in Engineering/Building Maintenance and an NC/HNC (SCQF Level 7) in Engineering/Building Systems qualification.
Year 1 – Full-time attendance at college
Year 2 to 4 – day release to college, remainder of time hospital/workplace based, and time spent on-the-job learning, developing knowledge and skills. Where required healthcare environment specific training will be provided.
As an Electrician in the NHS work typically includes; planned maintenance, reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairing equipment that is broken or faulty, testing equipment and systems, minor works, improvements and installations.
You will attend Edinburgh College (Midlothian) and therefore will need to have your own transport or use of public transport when commuting to work or college when term starts.
NHS Lothian work closely with EDETA as the nominated service provider for the Company throughout the apprenticeship programme. Complete the required work associated with module assessments in a timely manner, raising issues early when not meeting required deadlines.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must have; -
National 4 or 5’s (or equivalent) including maths, English and a science or technical subject.
Your working week will be Monday to Friday 8.00am – 4.00pm, when in the work place. College hours will be worked in year one.
