An opportunity has arisen for a temporary appointment to the position of Strategic Operations Manager (SOM) working as part of the National Risk and Resilience Department (NRRD). We are seeking a forward thinking, outcome driven, performance focused leader with patient care, staff welfare, quality, and clinical safety at the forefront of their mind. This exciting opportunity is on a temporary basis for up to 2 years.
The Strategic Operations Manager is accountable for the Scottish Ambulance Service Accident & Emergency performance coordination 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are expected to analyse and monitor the utilisation of all physical assets, human resources, processes and systems, and take appropriate action to ensure that these are being managed efficiently and effectively to meet anticipated demand, delivering timely, appropriate, high quality of care to patients. The Strategic Operations Manager is also the conduit into the Service for critical notifications from external agencies including Scottish Government and it is their role to act upon those notifications ensuring that the appropriate managers and resources within the Service are notified and if, appropriate, mobilised to respond.
The Strategic Operations Manager will invariably be the senior ambulance manager on duty outside regular working hours, providing out of hours senior management support to Accident & Emergency Operations, Ambulance Control Centres, Patient Transport Services and Support Services.
The post holder will also be responsible for the immediate management and coordination of any large scale or protracted emergency incidents and deal with business continuity issues as outlined in the SAS Major Incident Plan and Disaster Recovery arrangements.
Outside the core role, the Strategic Operations Manager will be expected to deliver on work strands applicable to a Band 8a role as part of the wider strategic team.
The ideal candidate will possess significant experience at a senior level, in a critical decision making environment, preferably with previous experience within a clinical setting. They will possess excellent communication, leadership and influencing skills with ability to analyse data, make evidence based decisions and deliver patient focussed performance improvement.
The Strategic Operations Manager operates on a 6-person roster. Reporting to the Head of Service, Strategic Operations and Resilience, the post will be based at Cardonald Ambulance Control Centre, with travel across Scotland as required. Please note that the location is under review.
