The post holder is the designated Health Visitor for children from antenatal to school entry age, excluding the unborn child. They are responsible for monitoring children’s wellbeing and assessing whether assistance is required and work in partnership with the family and involved agencies.


Applicants will be a NMC Part 3 Registered Nurse or Midwife qualified to degree level or equivalent with a post-registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing. They must be educated to Masters Level or demonstrate equivalent knowledge. They will provide advice using a comprehensive understanding of legislation relating to information sharing, data storage and public protection and will demonstrate thorough knowledge of health and social care pathways relating to safeguarding, early intervention and protection of children.


Successful candidates must be experienced in caseload management and planning to meet deadlines; have experience of using a strength based approach working in partnership with families;  be able to use a number of assessment tools to decide referral pathways; be competent in the management of risks and concerns using critical thinking to enable effective decision making;  provide professional advice within a multi-agency setting that puts children’s interests and safety first; lead discussions and make decisions based on an assessment of a range of factors in complex situations; develop and implement policies, procedures, service standards and improvements and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to continuing professional development.
