A post for a consultant with a sub-special interest in Adult Hand Surgery with a subspecialty interest in small joint arthroplasty and rheumatoid arthritis has become available.
This is a substantive 10 session-post with a specialist interest in Adult Hand Surgery & Hand/Finger Joint replacement surgery based in the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
The primary purpose of this role is to manage new referrals for elective Adult Hand Surgery including patients requiring interphalangeal and first carpometacarpal arthroplasty. Assistance/advice in complex hand trauma may be required from colleagues without subspecialist training in this area. Long term follow-up of Adult Hand Trauma patients is also undertaken by the sub-specialist hand surgery team.
The applicant will therefore be expected to demonstrate training and experience in Adult Hand Surgery and small hand and finger joint replacement surgery. Specifically, the candidate needs experience with CapFlex, Maia/Touch CMCJ arthroplasty, and the management of sequelae of rheumatoid arthritis. Experience in general plastics surgery, including skin cancer management, and general paediatric plastic surgery would be desirable.
There will also be a commitment to participate on the on-call rota. This a non-split on call rota and candidates will be required to acutely be able to manage all aspects of Plastic Surgery trauma and burns
The successful candidate would be based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where the Canniesburn Unit is located, undertaking adult hand clinics and carrying out elective care. They would work closely with 3 other colleagues undertaking Hand Surgery in the unit with another 3 colleagues with sub-specialist training in this area.
General commitments to on-call coverage will also be expected by candidates competent in managements of all aspects of trauma Plastic Surgery and Burns.
The Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit currently has 26 Consultants and 1 Speciality Doctor. The Service provides the entire spectrum of plastic and reconstructive subspecialty services excluding craniofacial surgery and has a large workload of general plastic surgery. This Unit is internationally recognised and runs a variety of teaching courses every year.
Applicants should be appropriately experienced/qualified in the speciality, fully registered with the GMC and have a valid licence to practise. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
