You will support and deliver healthcare provision to detained persons in police custody suites in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GG&C), conducting clinical assessments, identifying and implementing appropriate interventions, including administration of medicines, providing advice and guidance to custody staff regarding the care of the detainee whilst in police custody, maintaining comprehensive and accurate records to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of detained persons held in police custody. As a development of the role, this will be specific to providing a service for detained persons held in police custody with complex mental health, physical and social care needs who present in crisis within a police custody setting and may require additional interventions over a short time period and subsequent referral onto other mental health services if deemed appropriate when released from police care.

It is essential that you are Mental Health Nurse with current NMC Registration, you should be educated to Degree level and have experience within one of the following areas:

Custodial settings, mental health community/crisis or inpatient care, forensic mental health and you should be able to demonstrate your ability to manage a caseload in one of the areas above. You should have significant post registration experience of using specialist assessment skills and techniques to determine health care needs while having the ability to communicate with other professionals and disciplines. This post requires you to have a driving license.  You should be able to evidence your continuing professional development. This is a permanent post with full time hours. The rota includes long day and night shifts and, due to the demands of the service, predominantly involves weekend working.
