The shift pattern is 40 hours, over 7 days with an on call commitment.
Applications are invited for this substantive Respiratory Consultant post which will be based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). The successful candidate will join an established Respiratory consultant team.
Applicants must have MRCP, full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of Interview. You should have extensive training in general respiratory medicine. An interest and relevant subspecialty experience in long-term ventilation, medical high-dependency and hospital at home care is desirable. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
The successful candidate will be responsible with colleagues for the care of both inpatients and outpatients with a range of respiratory diseases. Appointees will provide care for general respiratory inpatients at QEUH (including on-call duties) and outpatients within associated sites in South Sector. It is anticipated that appointee would contribute to care provision for inpatients in medical high dependency unit, hospital at home/virtual ward inpatients, inpatients and outpatients in our long-term ventilation unit. It is also anticipated that the appointee would contribute to the ongoing transformation of our general respiratory unscheduled and scheduled care services aligned with NHS GG&C strategy and within the newly formed interface directorate. The successful candidate would undertake and supervise advanced pleural and bronchoscopy procedures as appropriate based on experience and service requirements, and contribute to educational supervision and undergraduate teaching within supporting professional activity session.
The distribution of responsibilities between the appointee and the established consultant team would be finalised post appointment. Some flexibility in timing of sessions, taking into account Bank Holidays, prospective cover in colleagues’ absence, and occurrence of receiving ward rounds, will be required.
The post is available from November 2025 but applicants who would only be available to start in subsequent months would also be welcome.
