An opportunity has arisen for Spoken Language Interpreters to join the bank pool within Interpretation & Translation Service in NHS Tayside.


The Corporate Equalities, Interpretation & Translation Service provide an interpretation service for both spoken language and British Sign Language throughout Tayside, within Acute NHS Services, Health & Social Care Partnerships, Primary Care and Independent Contractors.  You will work closely with other Spoken Language and British Sign Language Interpreters to deliver a high quality service to patients, carers and their families in Tayside. You will report directly to the Team Lead. 


Bank Spoken Language Interpreters will be supported to develop skills and competencies which will allow them to operate as autonomous practitioners with minimal supervision of their work. This is a role with a focus on providing spoken language interpretation to patients, carers and their families. There may be opportunities to support training and education and translation of key NHS documents


You must have the following  


  • Previous interpreting experience  
  • Ability to travel throughout NHS Tayside
  • It would be desirable for the candidate to have a DPSI (Health) OR a willingness to attend DPSI Health training sessions


You will be required to adhere to NHS Tayside Policies, Procedures and Health Care Support Worker Code of Conduct.

You must understand the role of the interpreter ethics and boundaries as illustrated in the Framework for Public Service Interpreters.

Hours of work: Applications welcome for a Bank contract to meet the demands of the service  The Interpretation & Translation Service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year with a core service from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
