The role:
The post holder will contribute to the life cycle management of medical equipment, working in-line with standard operating procedures and to support the service by performing essential duties relating to the Asset Management System.
Duties will include performing scheduled preventative maintenance, repair, fault finding, commissioning and decommissioning of a defined range of low-risk non-complex medical devices. Equipment is based across the hospital departments, including critical care and general wards.
This post will be based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Princess Royal Maternity hospitals.

Shift Pattern - 8am-3:30(Monday) 8am-4pm (Tuesday -Friday)
Key responsibilities:
Clinical / Technical – 80%
The post holder will work on low-risk, non-complex medical devices, ensuring compliance with the Asset Management System at all times.
The duties of this post include: –
Commissioning: Acceptance checking and installation of new medical devices to ensure safety for staff and patients.
Scheduled maintenance: Planned maintenance and quality assurance testing in line with procedures and service manuals.
Fault-finding and repair: Systematic fault diagnosis and repair using appropriate tools, seeking specialist support when required.
Decommissioning: Safe decommissioning of medical devices in accordance with procedures.
Electrical safety testing: Visual and electrical safety testing to meet health and safety regulations.
Safety alerts / field safety notices: Support actions arising from safety alerts and notices.
Call logging: Accurate and timely logging of service calls, prioritising urgency and escalating complex devices to specialists.
Record keeping: Maintain accurate records on the Medical Equipment Management System in line with governance requirements.
Stock maintenance: Monitor and control stock, taking action when levels fall below agreed thresholds.
Administration / teaching / training – 20%
- Participate in meetings, working groups, and asset management system activities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of local policies and protocols for low-risk equipment.
- Support training of new staff and mentor work placement students.
- Undertake ongoing professional, technical, and mandatory training to maintain competence.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Qualifications
A relevant SCQF Level 8 qualification in an engineering or technology-based subject
Knowledge and Training
Knowledge of electrical, electronic and general engineering principles
Good organisational and communication skills
Experience
Experience of the service, repair and fault finding of electronic equipment / electrical systems
