An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacy Support Worker Higher Level to join our growing Pharmacy Homecare Medicines Team. We are looking for a highly motivated, professional, enthusiastic individual with a willingness to learn to join our friendly team and work in a fast-paced, dynamic, environment at the heart of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's Pharmacy Services. You will be based within the NHSGGC Pharmacy Distribution Centre (PDC) purchasing office and will be responsible for providing efficient and effective administrative support for the homecare medicines service to ensure patients receive timely supplies of medication at home. This role is not patient facing although, it is entirely focused on delivering patient-centred care.
If successful in your application, your role will be crucial in supporting colleagues to develop and maintain the service. You will be working alongside Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Support Workers Higher Level, and Purchasing officers in addition to many other multidisciplinary professionals within NHSGGC and beyond. Duties will include - processing homecare prescriptions via the pharmacy stock management system to create purchase orders for homecare medicines in line with NHSGGC Standing Financial Instructions, maintaining patient homecare records, investigating and solving financial queries/discrepancies and solving queries from other stakeholders including clinical teams and homecare providers by email, telephone or face to face, along with any other duties as required to support the needs of the department.
You will be trained to use the pharmacy stock management computer system however, you must have good practical knowledge of Microsoft Office software, proven organisational skills and be able to demonstrate attention to detail in your work. Excellent communication skills are essential as you must communicate effectively with all levels of staff while working as part of our wider multi-disciplinary team.
The PDC is a modern, high-volume, and state-of-the-art facility responsible for the procurement and distribution of all medicines and vaccines across hospitals, clinics, and community pharmacies in the region including Argyll & Bute in NHS Highland. In addition, the PDC serves as the central administration point for NHSGGC pharmacy homecare medicines
We have three key operational areas at the PDC:
· Unit F Warehouse
· Unit F Office Team, which includes the Purchasing and Homecare teams
· Unit C Vaccine Holding Centre
Within the warehouse, 10 automated robots support the accurate and efficient distribution of medicines, ensuring timely delivery to meet clinical need across all service areas.
As one of the largest automated hospital pharmacy projects in the UK, we use cutting-edge robotic systems to ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency in our service delivery.
The successful candidate will work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 0800 to 1600, 4/7 whole week working and participate in Public Holiday.
What you will be doing:
- Assist in the supply of medicines to patient homes via the Homecare service, working collaboratively within a team under supervision and autonomously while adhering to standard operating procedures (S.O.P), and NHSGGC Standing Financial Instructions (S.F.I).
- Work collaboratively within the team under supervision, and autonomously.
- Utilise computer systems and equipment necessary for service delivery, following induction and training.
- Processing Homecare prescriptions via the pharmacy stock management system.
- Investigating and solving all queries/discrepancies including financial from all homecare stakeholders.
- Prioritise your own workload where required to meet the needs of the department.
- Receive goods into the department, update the stock management system, and comply with SOPs, Good Distribution Practice (GDP), and the Falsified Medicine Directive (FMD).
- Participate in the training and supervision of new staff in the purchasing office.
- Manage the homecare service generic email box.
- Assist in updating all homecare procedures and filing systems.
- Participate in local or national meetings with all homecare stakeholders via Microsoft Teams or face to face where required.
What you will bring:
- A general level of education and basic numeracy and literacy skills demonstrated by 3 Standard Grade Qualifications or equivalent, must include English and Maths.
· Good IT skills.
· Commitment to working towards achievement of relevant SVQ qualifications and participate in ongoing training and development.
· Experience of training staff.
· Experience of supervising staff.
· Experience of working in a healthcare or similar environment, with accuracy and attention to detail.
· Experience of stock management.
· A keen eye for detail and a commitment to upholding quality and safety standards

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
