NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is the largest Health Board and provider of healthcare in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK, together with our partners in the West of Scotland we deliver a range of services to support the patient experience. With a total budget of £3.2 billion and a workforce of around 39,000 staff we deliver local, regional and national acute and primary health care services. This is an exciting time within NHSGGC with the recent approval of our ‘Moving Forward Together’ programme which will support the transition from hospital based services to more community based and local services. Our recently launched Public Health Strategy and eHealth Strategy are also key enablers for change.
We are now looking to appoint an exceptional individual to the role of Chief Nurse, Head of Service –Public Protection who will provide professional leadership and managerial responsibility across three distinct specialist areas – Child Protection, Adult Support and Protection and Corporate Parenting with a linked role to Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA ) within NHSGGC.
Driving forward an integrated approach to Public Protection within NHSGGC the successfully appointed candidate will be responsible for establishing and ensuring co-ordinated health services are accessible and available for children and young people where Compulsory Measure of Care are in place in line with new legislation.
Both strategic and operational the post holder will have a lead role to support the performance management of protection services across NHSGGC and at the same time influence future services provision for vulnerable children, young people and adults both within NHSGGC and also in collaboration with partners.
Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director with the responsibility for Public Protection the post holder will contribute to the corporate management activities and, as the professional lead, will provide expert advice to the Corporate Management Team and Board members in relation to meeting their legislative responsibilities associated with Child and Adult Protection and Corporate Parenting Services.
The successfully appointed candidate will drive forward an integrated approach to Public Protection within NHSGGC and identify areas for improvement within the protection agenda, leading improvements and change in order to promote compliance with legislation, national and local guidance.
We are looking for someone with the stature to work collaboratively inside and outside of the organisation taking a lead role in representing NHSGGC as the Public Protection lead at a national level including chairing multi agency groups as required.
The post holder will have the professional, leadership and managerial experience within the specialty/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead effectively and efficiently across the Public Protection Agenda operating often against a background of multiple competing demands in a complex and political environment.
The post holder is required to be a Registered Nurse with current Registration and have a Graduate Master’s Degree or equivalent with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities Framework or equivalent.
