Pharmacy technicians are vital members of both the pharmacy and NHS Healthcare team. The role of the pharmacy technician is becoming more varied and complex as medicines become increasingly sophisticated and the role of the pharmacist evolves. As a result of this, the aim of our training programme is to deliver pharmacy technicians who have the necessary skills and knowledge to practice across all sectors in a 21st century NHS.
Whilst based specifically in the sectors detailed above this post is rotational, offering experience in the preparation, dispensing and supply of medicines and aseptic products directly to wards, departments and patients.
Candidates must be organised, enthusiastic, highly motivated, hard-working and demonstrate good communication skills. As a successful candidate you will be expected to travel cross site/sector, so flexibility is also an essential requirement.
This is a full time 2 year fixed term training contract during which time you will work towards the successful completion of the National Certificate (NC) in Pharmacy Services along with the work based Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Pharmacy Services Level 3. Attainment of both of these qualifications along with the in-house training that you will receive will ensure that you are then eligible to apply to the pharmacy professions regulatory body – General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) to practice as a pharmacy technician (Reg. Pharm. Tec)
You will attend Glasgow Kelvin or James Watt Colleges on a day release basis for 2 years to obtain the NC Pharmacy Services, whilst the vocational training will be departmental based with support and qualification assessment provided internally by a team of work based assessors.
Applications will be considered from candidates who have a dispensing background, currently have the NC and/or a minimum of 4 standard grades/National qualifications which include:
- English General Level 3 pass / National 4 level or equivalent
- Mathematics General Level 3 pass / National 4 level or equivalent
- Chemistry Credit Level pass/National 5 level or equivalent
- 2nd Science General Level 3 pass / National 4 level or equivalent
