Infrastructure Technical Analyst

Infrastructure Technical Services are provided across three distinct service areas detailed below and the technical analyst role will mainly have responsibilities in one of these areas although tasks can span across all infrastructure teams.

 

Windows servers, virtualisation and storage: - the virtualised server management infrastructure includes over 1000 Windows servers, some Linux servers and various software appliances. Data management including storage, backup and recovery as well as VM management at server level. Core production systems are run on a highly available VM platform across two data centres with a third site for recovery.

 

Desktop management & Application Provision:- NHSGG&C has over 800 applications ranging from Microsoft products to bespoke software, the vast majority of which are provisioned centrally utilising application virtualisation technology including a large VDI environment and desktop imaging using Microsoft Configuration Manager. Group Policy management, desktop builds and windows performance will also be managed and supported in this area.

 

Active Directory & Device Management: - Tens of thousands of users and devices are managed via Active Directory and Microsoft Networking services (DNS/DHCP). Additional management tools are used for patching, encryption, endpoint protection, AD disaster recovery and archiving.

You will be able to demonstrate experience in supporting and maintaining some of the groups of technologies listed below.

 

  • DELL PowerEdge servers and SC series storage arrays
  • Virtualisation experience should cover VMware vSphere in large distributed environments using synchronous and asynchronous replication technologies
  • Windows Server Operating Systems
  • Cisco Fibre Channel Switching
  • VEEAM Backup and Replication and management and monitoring products
  • Various server and virtualising platforms including IBM, HP, Dell along with associated storage technologies eg Fibre Channel 
  • Knowledge of scripting, storage protocols, snapshot/replication and performance optimisation techniques would also be beneficial

 

Exposure to IT within the Health Service would be advantageous

 

Shift pattern; Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm
