CONSULTANT GASTROENTEROLOGIST 10PA (with the options for additional PAs or consideration of less than full time)
Applications are invited to join the Gastroenterology team as a substantive Consultant Gastroenterologist, based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness to join a dynamic and focused team that comprises of 4.3 Consultants, 9 Specialist Nurses across IBD, Liver and Nutrition plus 2.75WTE Specialist Dietician.
The GI Unit includes a three-roomed endoscopy suite, a 24 bed ward area within the Department of Medicine, and 28 beds (plus 6 HDU beds) within the Surgical Directorate. Gastroenterological physicians, surgeons, radiologists, physicists, pathologists and dieticians work in close co-operation centred on a number of MDTs. The Gastroenterology Service, covers the full range of gastroenterological and hepatological diagnostic inpatient and outpatient services.
The post is offered on the Consultant Contract terms and conditions of service. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCT at time of interview.
The Department of Medicine comprises 220 beds and is staffed by 47 physicians. A critical care complex which includes a modern 6 bedded coronary care unit, 6 bedded high dependency unit, triage area and 26 bedded receiving ward forms the core of acute medical and cardiological receiving.
Raigmore Hospital is the principal District General Hospital of the Highlands with 454 beds and a catchment area of almost 10,000 square miles covering the entire Scottish Highlands with a population of approx. 300,000. Together with the smaller Rural General Hospitals in Oban, Fort William and Wick, the department provides a comprehensive gastro service to the whole of the Highland population. Medical staff are involved in teaching undergraduate medical and physician assistant students from the University of Aberdeen and years 2-4 of the Scottish Graduate Entry Medicine (ScotGEM) course with extensive up-to-date library facilities located at the Centre for Health Sciences. Good links exist with the newly-established Centre for Rural Health. The City of Inverness is the Capital of the Highlands and enjoys a lifestyle and environment only dreamt of in other parts of the country.
