The post holder will have a combined clinical and research role in which they will contribute to patient/client care and lead and design clinical research studies. This job description covers the research component of the post only, and the post holder will have their existing primary job description appropriate to their clinical duties.
The purpose of this fixed term post is for a post doctoral researcher in one of the NMAHP professions to develop a research portfolio through working as chief investigator on small grants and/or collaborator on larger grants, to the point where they have an appropriate track record to start to lead large studies and make a substantial contribution to the national/ international knowledge base. Within the framework of the embedded post they will also be expected to lead changes in clinical practice and contribute to service development through integrating research findings into existing clinical practice
The post holder is expected to play a major role in the development of a programme of research that addresses health service priorities within a clinical setting, including applying for and managing research grant funding. They will act as a source of advice and expertise within their own speciality and as research specialist. Where relevant, the post holder will manage budgets and line manage any future appointed research assistants/fellows associated with particular research grants.
The post holder has responsibility and accountability for maintaining clinical, staff and research governance.

If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
