The post-holder will be part of the Clinical Health Psychology Specialty which is part of the wider NHS Ayrshire & Arran Psychological Service.  The Psychological Service comprises of approximately 100 staff including Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists in CBT, Clinical associates in Applied Psychology, Counsellors, Graduate Assistant Psychologists and Master and Doctoral Psychology Trainees. The Psychological Service delivers area-wide psychological provision through the Professional Lead for Psychological Services and two Heads of Specialty and Consultant Psychology Leads across the Psychological Specialties.

This post will be based within the Acute Clinical Health Psychology Service - a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment in which to work. The post holder will have operational day to day and professional line management by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist as an employee of the NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Psychological Service. The Clinical Health Psychology service consists of a number of Clinical Psychologists, each attached to an acute medical specialty: Cardiac, Oncology, Pain, Stroke, Bariatric, MS and General Medicine.  Within each of these acute specialist areas the Psychologist is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health Professionals.

The post-holder will provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other evidence based Psychological interventions to adults who present with long-term physical health conditions and who are experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression and adjustment difficulties. The team operates a brief model of care with referrals coming from within the acute specialty teams. Clinics are held in a number of premises throughout Ayrshire. There will be opportunities for teaching, training and supervision of other health professionals and the post-holder will work closely with colleagues both from within the Psychological Specialty (when engaging in tasks such as assessment and vetting of referrals) and also from the wider acute service.

In order to support clinicians in the delivery of their role, Psychological Services places a strong emphasis on governance and CPD and has excellent opportunities for training and access to special interest/professional Groups. The service has close links with the University of Glasgow, Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Course and the University of Stirling/Dundee, MSc Psychological Therapy in Primary Care Course.

The applicant must be a car owner/driver. They must have successfully attained MSc Psychological Therapy in Primary Care and be accreditable or accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.

Hours – 37.5, Fixed Term for 12 months from start date
