Denburn Medical Practice
GP Posts
Who are we?
We are a dual site EMIS practice based both in Aberdeen city centre and Northfield, with a list size of circa 17,600. We are passionate about trying new approaches to deliver Primary Care and have a diverse consulting team comprising GPs, ANPs, NPs and a Pharmacy team. We are also a teaching and GP training practice with FY2s and GPSTs regularly rotating through the practice.
An £8.1m purpose built new site located in the north corridor is currently being project managed, and will include the first bespoke triage and video consultation Hub in Grampian. We will also continue to maintain a city centre presence.
Supporting the Grampian Covid Response
During the Covid pandemic, Denburn has actively supported the formation of the Grampian Covid Assessment Centre by sharing our expertise in remote care, assessment and treatment of medical conditions. Several of our GPs have been instrumental in the successful start up and running of the Covid Hub and, if you have worked any Covid shifts, you have likely been inducted by one of them.
Denburn has led in Grampian with innovation and forward-thinking models of care
- The first practice in Grampian to utilise Advanced Nurse Practitioners in extended roles, such as home visiting as early as 2010;
- The first, and until the recent mass adoption during the Covid pandemic, the only practice to operate a total triage model of care based on the Doctor First system since 2012;
- Early adopters of Near Me video consultation and currently a “Super User” of the platform;
- The first to establish a remote working cohort of clinicians who are based in Moray. This initial cohort of staff is shortly to be expanded;
- Have recently implemented the eConsult platform with high patient uptake.
Current areas of innovation that are being implemented at Denburn which may be of interest to applicants
- Use of electronic stethoscopes that allow auscultation remotely and at a distance to protect staff;
- Video otoscopy which allows ear examination at arm’s length;
- Microsoft Teams is used as the front end for almost all practice communications and meetings. This means minimal emails and allows staff to attend meetings
whilst maintaining appropriate social distancing;
- Augmentation of video consultation by the use of remote examination devices (digital stethoscopes/dermatoscopes etc);
- Remote long-term chronic disease reviews via eConsult and Near Me;
- Mjog text messaging that allows clinicians to communicate with patients asynchronously;
- Digital dictation with an integrated mobile device app. This means no more tapes and dictation can be sent to our secretaries at any time, from anywhere.
Why join our team?
The “new normal” is our “normal, normal” having already instituted, several years ago, the majority of the remote consultation and treatment modalities that other practices have only recently adopted. In turn, successful applicants will benefit from this expertise by being part of a team that is at the forefront of the way that primary care will be delivered.
In addition to the points above, you will:
- Develop skills in:
-the art of telephone consultation and triage;
-online consultation;
-remote assessment of patients via video platforms;
-clinical decision making and risk assessment(our GPs essentially act as expert medical generalists; streaming appropriate cases to our ANPs, offering advice, co-ordinating and supporting practitioners on home visits, managing patient demand and managing complex medical cases);
- Have access to a mentorship program for newly qualified GPs;
- Receive support to develop special interests;
- Work in a physically distanced hub with other clinicians. Denburn clinicians have worked predominantly in a triage hub since as early as 2012.
This offers clinicians the opportunity to work in a socially enriched environment with other colleagues. In turn, there is unparalleled camaraderie and support from the team, whilst still allowing private and quiet space to work.
Above all we have found this makes work far less isolating and fun. (There is also plenty of coffee from an automated bean to cup coffee machine -it’s better than Starbucks; compliments of the partners).
- Be able to work some sessions remotely;
- Have a competitive salary, and;
- Medical indemnity costs covered for any practice work,
- Have up to 7 weeks of combined annual/study leave,
- Opportunity to have flexible start and finish times.
Who are we looking for?
- Dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic individuals who are able to embrace change and different ways of working;
- Salaried GP(s) for 4-8 sessions. Part time appointments amongst separate individuals will be considered;
- Some experience in telephone triage desirable, but not essential. More important is a desire to learn and work differently;
- Recently qualified GPs are welcome to apply. We have a robust in-house induction program and a strong and supportive training ethos within the practice.
Start date is flexible and will be through mutual negotiation. We are not in an immediate rush and would be prepared to wait for the right individual and would consider an August start date (or later) for newly qualified trainees.
Applicants must be registered to practice with the GMC.
