Job Title:  Deputy Charge Nurse

Grade:  Band 6

Location:   Maple Villa, 1 Larch Grove, Livingston

Contract Duration:  Permanent

Hours:  37.5 Hours per Week

West Lothian HBCCC ward for Older People with Dementia

Based at: Maple Villa, Livingston

West Lothian has an ever increasing Older Adult Population, some of whom require hospital based complex clinical care services. The post holder would be based at Maple Villa, but could be asked to work across West Lothian.

Maple Villa is a HBCCC ward for men with dementia whose stressed and distressed behaviour means they cannot be managed in a more homely environment.

As a Band 6 Charge Nurse, you will be expected to be an autonomous practitioner and able to carry out in-depth mental health assessments of individuals requiring support.  You will liaise with other hospital wards, CPNs, social work, families, carers, Mental Welfare Commission, Nursing homes, and third sector agencies such as Alzheimer’s Scotland to promote and develop robust nursing care plans and interventions for the gentlemen in Maple Villa.

You will also have the responsibility for teaching and supervision junior members of staff, student nurses and unqualified staff. Good communication and organisational skills are essential along with knowledge of relevant legislation related to current mental health practice and in particular the older adult. It is also essential that you are a Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC Registration. Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is also a condition of this post.  The service is delivered over 7 days per week, 24 hours a day, so shifts can be across the 24 hour period.

Informal enquires are welcomed to Alison Thomson, Senior Charge Nurse 01506437786

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
