- Consultants in Public Health Medicine (GMC-registered) will be appointed to NHS Scotland Consultant Terms and Conditions (please refer to the candidate information pack for specific details).
- Specialists in Public Health (UKPHR-registered) will be appointed to NHS Scotland Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions - Band 8D (please refer to the candidate information pack for specific details).

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is the largest healthcare system in the UK, with an annual revenue budget of c. £3.2 billion, employing around 38,000 staff. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of around 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The geographical area covered is diverse; from the major city of Glasgow, large and small towns, villages and some rural districts; and encompasses 6 Health and Social Care Partnerships areas from East Dunbartonshire to Inverclyde.

This is an exciting time to join our highly successful, established and forward-thinking Public Health Directorate, as the experienced and committed team navigates and leads a significant and high profile programme of work to support the emergency and contingency planning to tackle the public health challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, and continues values-driven core service delivery within complex social and political landscapes.
As part of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) Board’s recovery planning, you will play a pivotal role in:
- supporting the delivery of our ambitious "Turning the Tide" Public Health Strategy, which sets out our journey to become an exemplar in Public Health for which there is commitment and support, and
- accelerating the improvement in health life expectancy within GGC, and between GGC and the rest of Scotland for both men and women by 2028.
As the largest board you will have maximum opportunity to influence national policy, and together with fellow members of the Public Health Team and our close partners in Health and Social Care (HSCP), you will provide expert public health advice and leadership. This will support and inform an evidence-based approach within ethical frameworks for developing high quality equitable services, across primary, secondary and social care, and across sectors including local authorities, voluntary organisations and extremely close working with the Glasgow Centre for Population Health to improve health and tackle inequality.
Joining with another 8 consultants and with more being recruited, you will be part of distributed collective leadership with excellent support from e-health and dedicated public health analysts to contribute to epidemiological work. You can develop a flexible portfolio dependent on your skills and preferences, and will be strongly supported to undertake training and study to develop your portfolio. Our working covers 6 local authorities meaning consultants can take a lead role with an individual local authority and HSCP. The team also maintain international links with Public Health partners in cities in Pakistan and USA.
We are looking to appoint two new colleagues to the post of Consultant in Public Health Medicine / Specialist in Public Health where the successfully appointed candidates will help shape decisions over a range of public health functions, operating and influencing across ambitious and far-reaching programmes of work which will have significant impact for improving health and wellbeing for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde population.

Successful candidates will be given a high degree of autonomy and time to undertake supporting professional activities including training and teaching or to pursue sub-speciality interests.
The posts are advertised on the basis of 10 Programmed Activities (full time) with the option of an Indicative Split: 8.0 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).
As a forward-thinking close knit-team, we welcome the opportunity to negotiate job plans, where possible to accommodate sub-speciality interests as well as also offering opportunities to pursue academic and clinical teaching interests due to the close links with the University of Glasgow and other Higher Education Institutions in the GGC area.
For successful candidates, we will, as part of the on-boarding process, discuss the design of your job plan to reflect your aspirations whether you are an experienced consultant looking for a new challenge or you are coming out of training into your first consultant post.

Applications are invited from Public Health Doctors who hold full General Medical Council (GMC) registration, and who are included in the GMC Specialist Register (Public Health Medicine) or are eligible for such inclusion within six months of the interview date.
Specialist in Public Health |
Applications are also invited from Public Health specialists who hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Public Health, are on the Voluntary Register (Public Health), or are eligible for such inclusion within six months of the interview date.

Glasgow dining is hard to beat with over 2,000 bars and restaurants serving mouth-watering food!
The city is packed with established Scottish restaurants as well as experimental establishments that are driving cuisine forward with the trademark Glaswegian charm.
There's plenty to keep you occupied, from picturesque parks like Glasgow Green to award-winning museums like Kelvingrove Galleries. One of the reasons Glasgow has earned a reputation as such a fun place is its eclectic music scene - you'd expect nothing less from a UNESCO City of Music. Glasgow’s music scene covers every possible style of music over a staggering number of gigs each week. If you're a fan of live music then Glasgow is the city for you.
