Who We Are?

NHS Borders is one of 21 Health Boards in Scotland employing 3300 team members.  The HR Department are a team within the Workforce Directorate, who aim to provide an excellent service in all aspects of employment, from prior to commencement of employment and throughout the employment lifecycle of all staff. This includes providing a wide range of professional services such as recruitment, training, workforce planning, terms and conditions of service and policy, advice and guidance.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our operational Employee Relations team for an HR Officer.  The Employee Relations team is the first point of contact for queries within the organisation and we provide invaluable support and advice to the Managers and employees of the Board.

What you’ll do

You will provide advice and guidance to managers and employees covering a range of professional services, which include: policy advice and guidance; case management support e.g. conduct, grievance, capability and attendance management; and advice on terms and conditions and contractual changes.

This role also provides support to clinical boards with sickness absence reporting with data from eESS and SSTS systems.

It is therefore essential that you have a good understanding of ER practices and a professional, confident and flexible approach is essential.  Customer engagement is essential for this role, balancing the needs of the customers with the requirement to adhere to policy and process.  It is essential that you’re a strong team player, adaptable, willing and conscientious.

You will hold a qualification in Business Administration or Human Resource Management to Certificate in Personnel Practice level or equivalent and/or have equivalent level of knowledge obtained through significant work experience within an Employee Relations Team.  You should ideally have experience of HR systems and be computer literate with standard Microsoft packages.
