NHS Highland’s Clinical Oncology team are seeking a Consultant in Clinical Oncology to join them at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.  If you are a collaborative clinical leader who understands and values the perspectives of others and is motivated by testing new ways of working, we are waiting to hear from you.

A whole time Consultant in Clinical Oncology with responsibility for the non surgical treatment of Breast and Lung Cancer is sought.  This post is offered on the basis of 10 Programmed Activities per week with a DCC: SPA spilt of 8:2.  Those interested in less than full time working are encouraged to also apply.

Applicants must be included on the General Medical Council Specialist Register and in possession of or within six months of obtaining CCT in Clinical Oncology.

Raigmore Hospital is a modern district general hospital with approximately 454 beds. www.nhshighland.scot.nhs.uk.  The Cancer Centre provides cancer services for the Highland Region, Western Isles and parts of West Grampian (pop 310,000).   Approximately 1100 new oncology patients are seen annually.

The successful applicants would join a complement of six Consultants. It is envisaged that the successful appointee will undertake the non surgical care of patients with Breast and Lung Cancer.  It may be possible to accommodate other subspecialty interests so we would encourage potential applicants to get in touch.

NHS Highland, as a member of the North Cancer Alliance (North of Scotland Cancer Network (NOSCAN)) benefits from being in a well established collaboration with two other Cancer Centres in Grampian and Tayside providing excellent peer support

The department has a networked treatment facility with 2 IGRT/IMRT capable multi-energy linear accelerators with VMAT and electrons, CT simulator, RayStation planning software. Remote working has been facilitated. The department also has a modern outpatient suite which includes a day case chemotherapy area. There are 16 in-patient beds shared with Clinical Haematology. 

The department enjoys excellent working relationships with colleagues within the community, secondary care and has four nurse led chemotherapy units in peripheral hospitals. The post holder will also be expected to provide outreach oncology services to part of the catchment area.

The department has an enthusiastic and dedicated clinical trials team with high participation rates in Phase II and III trials.
