NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
Pharmacy Services
Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician Programme
As a pre-registration pharmacy technician you will join the pharmacy team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Pharmacy Services and assist in the provision of a diverse range of technical pharmaceutical services throughout primary care, acute hospital settings and community pharmacy.
This two year programme includes work-based training alongside studying towards the Diploma in Pharmacy Services and SVQ qualifications, with the expectation of registering as a fully qualified Pharmacy Technician at the end of two years which is a professional qualification
Pharmacy technicians are vital members of both the pharmacy and NHS Healthcare team whether in hospitals, community pharmacies or GP practices. The role of the pharmacy technician is becoming more varied and complex as medicines become increasingly sophisticated and the role of the pharmacist evolves. As a result of this, the aim of our training programme is to deliver pharmacy technicians who have the necessary skills and knowledge to practice in a 21st century NHS.
Whilst you will be mainly based in primary care this post offers experience in the dispensing and supply of medicines and products within either community pharmacy or an acute hospital setting.
Candidates must be organised, hardworking, accurate and be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and as the successful candidate is expected to travel cross site/sector, flexibility is also an essential requirement.
This is a full time 2 year fixed term contract and will be employed under Annex 21 terms and conditions meaning that successful candidates will be appointed at 70% of the maximum salary scale for this post (or the national living wage whichever is higher).
As part of your employment you will work towards the successful completion of the Diploma in Pharmacy Services along with the work based Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Pharmacy Services Level 3 and the achievement of any Core Skills that you have not achieved through previous learning. Attainment of both of these national qualifications along with the workplace experiential learning that you will receive will ensure that you are then eligible to apply to the pharmacy professions regulatory body – General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) to practice as a pharmacy technician (Reg. Pharm. Tec).
You will undertake the course with either West College Scotland or through a workplace training provider known as Buttercups.
Applications will only be considered from candidates who possess Chemistry at National 5 level and a minimum of a further 3 National 4 level qualifications which must include a science (preferably Biology), Mathematics and English (or equivalent).
