A fixed term (23 months) post has become available within the Genetic Service for an Advanced Healthcare Science Practitioner. Applicants should have an Honours Degree in genetics, molecular biology or relevant biological science or SVQ level 4 equivalent in an appropriate biological science. Evidence of experience in key genetic techniques is essential and preference will be given to appropriately skilled applicants with NHS experience. Evidence of supervisory and training experience is also essential to the role. The successful candidate will undertake a broad range of testing procedures on a variety of samples referred to the Service with a particular emphasis on the delivery of next-generation sequencing. The post-holder will generate genetic test results and consequently must work in a careful and meticulous manner and adhere to all laboratory standard operating procedures. You will work with Senior Clinical Scientists to develop and deliver sequencing and genotyping for a range of inherited and acquired disorders in addition you will work closely with the Technical Team lead to direct the work of Assistants, Associates and Senior Practitioners to deliver the majority of practical work required for an effective Service.


Continued professional development and training will be actively encouraged to enable the successful applicant to achieve appropriate registration as a Healthcare Science Practitioner.

The Regional Genetic Service is a large friendly team of Technical, Scientific and Clinical staff who provide a first-class service to patients and families from Tayside /NE Fife and elsewhere in Scotland. The Service offers modern, well equipped facilities situated within Ninewells Hospital.
