NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Staff Bank service provides appropriately skilled and experienced registered and unregistered nursing and midwifery staff on a temporary basis to support increased staffing across all our Acute Hospital locations

Our Bank HealthCare Support Workers (sometimes referred to as Nursing Assistants) are a vital part of our Nursing and Midwifery workforce and make a real difference every day to our patient care and especially so during the current Covid-19 pandemic.  Being selected as a Bank Health Care Support Worker is a great way to gain experience and exposure to the NHS.

We are currently increasing our pool of Bank Health Care Support Workers as we expect demand for our Bank Staff to increase especially over the winter months. As a Bank Health Care Support Worker you will work  under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/Midwife and you can work varying hours on an ‘as and when’ basis but can be on a full and part time capacity across a range of shift patterns including early, day, and night shifts including weekends and public holidays  .

Opportunities for work are available across all NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s hospital locations covering both Glasgow and Clyde (Paisley and Greenock) at the following:

Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Royal Hospital for Children, Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital, Victoria Ambulatory Care Hospital, Gartnavel General Hospital, Institute of Neurological Sciences, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Inverclyde Royal Hospital and the Vale of Level Hospital.     

Successful candidates will be passionate and enthusiastic about high quality patient care, putting patients at the heart of everything they do. You will be working as part of our nursing teams and will need to be able to think on the spot, show empathy and be hardworking and dedicated.

Applicants must demonstrate  as an absolute must that they are caring with an understanding natue  and with great people and communication skills. You must be organised with a positive attitude towards flexibility and able to demonstrate your availability to work a mixture of shift rosters and across a wide range of clinical areas within our Acute Hospitals  . Experience of working in a care setting is preferable as is holding an SVQ Level 2 in Healthcare Support (SCQF level 6) or equivalent experience.Above all you will have the drive to produce excellent patient care .

Our recruitment process is designed to assess your abilities, skills, experience and motivation to carry out the variety of duties included in the role of a Health Care Support Worker such as:

  • Washing / dressing /toileting patients
  • Making beds and cleaning bed areas
  • Serving meals and assisting feeding patients
  • Taking patients physiological observations i.e. temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, weight, blood sugar levels.
  • Communicating with patients -talking / listening to patients

We are looking for staff that have a genuine passion for providing excellent service to our patients and can demonstrate professionalism and commitment during this critical period for us which will enable us to continue to deliver our services to all our communities.

Succesful candidates will be required to complete an online induction and training programme.
