NATIONAL RISK & RESILIENCE DEPARTMENT

Special Operations Response Teams

Special Operations Paramedic

East SORT Base (Newbridge)

AfC Band 6 plus unsocial allowance

The National Risk and Resilience Department (NRRD) are currently seeking applications from enthusiastic, flexible and motivated HCPC registered Paramedics with a genuine interest in developing new skills for positions as SORT Paramedics within the full time Special Operations Response Teams.

The purpose of SORT is to save life, increase survival and improve clinical outcomes. This is achieved by ensuring SORT clinicians are trained and equipped to extend the reach of the NHS into challenging and high-risk environments. This allows SORT clinicians to deliver high quality clinical care at the point of injury and ensure a smooth transition in to wider NHS care.

Successful candidates will be required to undertake the following operational duties as part of the Special Operations Paramedic role:

  • Hazardous materials
  • CBRN
  • MTA
  • Safe working at height
  • Confined Space
  • Unstable terrain
  • Inland Water operations
  • Support to security operations (Tactical medical operations e.g. Firearms)

All SORT clinicians are required to undertake additional organisational support duties, which include crewing the SORT Response Units (SRUs), in service training and clinical audit.

Scottish Ambulance Service SORT forms an integral part of the UK wide Hazardous Area Response network and as such there may be a requirement to relocate to other parts of the UK on a short term and short notice basis as part of a mutual aid response to a major or significant incident.
