Occupational Health Acute medical / Surgical Teams

Ninewells Hospital, Dundee

Band 6 Occupational Therapist – Full Time

Fixed Term/Secondment for 6 months

Salary Scale :  £31,800 - £39,169 per annum pro rata

There is an opportunity for a Band 6 occupational therapist to work within the Acute Medical / Surgical teams at Ninewells hospital. This is an exciting time for a motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking registered occupational therapist who is a team player and has well developed communication skills to join us as we continue to expand and develop our occupational therapy team to include service provision over 7 days. This post provides the potential to enhance your knowledge and skills to act independently to provide a full comprehensive specialist service by delivering OT interventions to patients within an acute hospital and responsibility for maximising their functional potential. This post is based in the acute medical / surgical team and covers Surgical, Acute Medical and Short Stay wards, A&E, Frailty, Front door outreach, Respiratory, Cardiac, Renal, Medicine for the Elderly, Gastrointestinal, Oncology, General Medical and Infectious Diseases.

We are looking for a dynamic, creative individual who will provide specialised occupational therapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment discharge planning and onward referral, facilitating high quality treatment with the interdisciplinary team, working in partnership with all agencies providing care and support for this patient group. You will be expected to work as part of the multidisciplinary team in ensuring effective delivery of patient care and be able to successfully work together with colleagues in the acute hospital setting and beyond with onward referral and discharge to a complex range of patients to our colleagues in local authority to ensure that there is a seamless approach to practice. This is an ideal position for a Band 5 with relevant clinical experience or a Band 6 wishing to continue their clinical development. Leadership and mentoring skills will be developed as this post provides supervision and support for junior staff.  As a band 6 OT, you will assist in the development of the service within your team as well as supporting change and development within the wider OT department.

Allied Health Professions are moving to 7 day working and this post will require some weekend working in line with the evidence base and the strategic direction of NHS Tayside.  This is for improved patient outcomes and to maximise a person-centred equitable approach to care.  All new contracts for AHP staff will be for a 7 days service/rota to enable the service to be ready to move to a safe and effective 7 day service.

For this post, you can expect to be fully supported through our established system of personal development planning and training programmes. We have a strong commitment to MDT working, clinical governance, CPD and evidence based practice.  We fully support undergraduate OT training programmes and regularly accept students on practice placements from Scottish and International Universities. The post holder will be educated to diploma or degree level in Occupational therapy as well as holding a current HCPC registration.

Written approval must be sought from your line manager prior to applying for this secondment.  You will be required to bring this if shortlisted for interview.
