Job Advert

Over recent years NHS Tayside has committed to increased investment in the Area Psychological Therapies Service. The Service now has a complement of around 160 clinical and applied staff with an additional 18 trainees.  Opportunity exists to combine a number of specialist posts to reflect career interests of suitable applicants. The Department provides a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment in which to work. Opportunities exist for involvement in teaching and research, taking advantage of close links with Universities of Dundee and Stirling. Members of the Department also contribute to the supervision and training of trainees on the Edinburgh/East and South of Scotland Clinical Teaching Course, the Universities of Stirling and Dundee MSc Course and the Child course.

This post is based within the Major Trauma Centre, at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.  The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), providing a highly specialised clinical psychology and neuropsychology service to patients admitted via this pathway. All patients admitted via this pathway will have sustained significant physical injury including orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, brain injury and those who have received critical care.  Many patients will have to adjust to new physical disability, and may require lifelong care.  They are likely to experience strong emotions, immobility, dependency, anxiety, pain and disruption to their body image during hospitalisation.  A major part of the post holder’s role will be supporting patients and families to make this adjustment.

The post-holder will be part of the wider NHS Tayside Clinical Neuropsychology Service which employs staff with a diverse range of clinical and research interests.  As such, there are excellent opportunities for CPD, research and involvement in ongoing service development, all of which are strongly encouraged.  Clinical and management supervision for this post will be provided by a Clinical Neuropsychologist.  The successful candidate must have drive, enthusiasm and flexibility and be able to work within multidisciplinary settings.
