NSS as a Non Departmental Public Body (NDPB) provides a diverse range of support functions for the NHS in Scotland. NSS employs approximately 3,500 staff (comprising medical, nursing, technical, scientific, management, administration and warehouse staff, currently located in 24 sites across Scotland) with associated revenue costs of over £520 million.  In addition, NSS has responsibility for taking forward key initiatives such as National Shared Support Services, Logistics and Procurement.
Procurement, Commissioning and Facilities is a Strategic Business Unit of NSS and operates across 3 sites in Scotland providing procurement, facilities, specialist health services and supply chain solutions for NHS Scotland and the wider public sector.  
National Procurement forms a business unit of PCF and provides commercial, procurement systems and supply chain solutions to NHS Scotland and also operates as one of the five Procurement Centres of Expertise across the entire Public Sector in Scotland.
You will be joining at an important and challenging period for our service. National Procurement has been front and centre of NHS Scotland’s response to the Covid19 emergency working closely with the Scottish Government, UK DHSC and other key agencies and strategic suppliers. As a result, our Category teams have been asked to take on wider responsibilities and for new areas of expenditure. 
The Head of Strategic Sourcing role reports to the Director of National Procurement. The successful candidate will be one of two Heads of Strategic Sourcing and will direct, mentor and provide technical, commercial and managerial leadership to a portfolio of Category Teams. This additional Head of Sourcing will enable our teams to respond to this challenging period and ensure the requirements of our NHS services can be fully met. 
The Category Teams scope include all goods and services required across the NHS including Pharmaceuticals, Medical Supplies and Equipment, Food, Building facilities and maintenance, IT systems, General office supplies and equipment, temporary labour and personal protective equipment. 
National Procurement provide commercial solutions across all areas of expenditure between NHSS and 3rd party providers and our national arrangements cover over 60% of that expenditure. Our teams are focused on delivering innovation and to create sustainable and ethical supply chains for our Health and Social Care services.
You will have very strong and senior procurement experience preferably in the public sector, have a proven track record in leading and managing teams and be an excellent communicator with the ability to lead and gain commitment to change across diverse and technically expert stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency
