As a School Nurse you will undertake the Post Graduate Diploma in School Nursing (SCPHN) and join the School Nursing Service within East, North and South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnerships.  You are required to be registered on part 1 or 2 of the NMC register and possess a first degree as part of the admission criteria for the programme of learning.  Practical assessment and academic learning are carried out by staff from the University of West of Scotland and the Health and Social Care Partnerships.

You will be supported to undertake the UWS course on a full time, one year basis commencing the course before the end of 2022. During this period you will be employed as a School Nurse Students, it is important to note that as a full time student, attendance at university and all holidays will be set by the University, Practice placements will be arranged in various locations across Ayrshire Universal Early Years’ Service with Practice Teachers or School Nurse mentors. There will also be an expectation that following successful completion you will take up employment in Ayrshire in a 37.5 hour School Nurse post, base location to be identified.

As a 1st level Registered Nurse (or Midwife) with excellent communication skills, the academic study commitment, and ability to be flexible and work within a large team is essential. Excellent organisation and communication skills are essential along with a passion for improving outcomes for our children and young people. Current experience working with Children and Young People and working in multidisciplinary teams is desirable.

A written assignment, presentation and interview will be part of the selection process.

Hours: 37.5 per week.
