Job Advert
CHILDREN AND FAMILIES CLINICAL CARE GROUP
CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST
Interview Date: 2nd February 2021
NHS Tayside is seeking to appoint to 2 WTE Consultant posts within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service Outpatient services in NHS Tayside. Applicants wishing to work part-time will be considered.
These posts have the potential to offer considerable room for personal development as well as development of specialist interests both within the established team structures and in further developing areas such as our personality disorder services as we increase our age range.
The post holders will provide psychiatric input to the well established multidisciplinary CAMHS locality teams in Tayside CAMHS, which provide a service for children up to age 16 years, (up to age 18 yrs if on a school roll). There is a plan to extend the age limit to 18 years irrespective of attendance at school and the approach to how this will be achieved is currently pending discussion.
Tayside CAMHS is a dynamic, forward-looking service with a history of setting standards, such as the opening of the current purpose-built clinic building at the Centre For Child Health in 1997, and the subsequent development of a research quality ADHD assessment and treatment pathway in partnership with the University of Dundee, which is associated with a number of peer reviewed publications, and more recently the development of an award winning Tier 4 outreach service as an alternative to in-patient admission. Tayside CAMHS psychiatry team wrote the Oxford Specialist Handbook in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry published in 2009, and they and other individuals have contributed to a range of practice networks and guidelines.
The clinical service has an active service improvement programme under way, and currently has a comprehensive range of integrated services with an experienced and highly motivated workforce. Our multi-disciplinary teams have great working relationships and a strong commitment to evidence-based practice, to teaching and training
There are a range of outpatient services provided including a neurodevelopmental pathway including Autism and ADHD pathways including specialist nurse prescribing, an eating disorder pathway and subgroups with intellectual disorders and looked after children remits. The outpatient department benefits from specialist nurse-led pathways including the CAMHS response team who see new urgent presentations, and the Tier 4 Intensive Outreach Service, staffed by experienced nurses with the flexibility to intensively support patients in the community. As part of the North of Scotland Network, Tayside CAMHS has access to a newly built regional, 12 bed inpatient facility, one of only three adolescent inpatient units in Scotland, which is conveniently located on the same site.
Outpatient services are currently delivered from two bases, one in Dundee which is home to the Dundee and Angus locality teams, and one in Perth. There are links with the three local authorities, Paediatrics services based two miles away at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, and Adult Mental Health Services also based on the Ninewells campus.
Applicants must have completed Higher Specialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and must be included on the GMC Specialist Registrar or be within 6 months of CCT or CESR in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the time of interview for the post. Generous relocation packages may be available depending on circumstances.
