Job Advert

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Blood Sciences (specialising as Quality Lead) to join us to work within our multi-site laboratory network in the Highlands of Scotland which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The laboratories are accredited to ISO15189 by UKAS as a 3-site Blood Sciences service and we are looking to strengthen our existing network and then to integrate a fourth Highland site. You will be expected to work with support workers and senior staff members as well as clinicians and management as a Quality Lead BMS whilst ensuring the day to day provision of a safe, effective and efficient blood science service across the network. Participation in the cross-departmental (Blood Sciences/Microbiology/Cellular Pathology) Quality Leads Group is expected to drive Quality innovation across the whole NHSH Area Laboratories Network.

You will be supported by experienced Quality Management and Clinical teams, along with dedicated support staff in a forward-thinking Blood Sciences Department. The post is located at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness but travel to the other sites will be required to fulfil the post.

Applications will be considered from candidates from a Multidisciplinary background that can demonstrate an appropriate skill in Quality Management. Sound knowledge of Blood Transfusion would be desirable for the post as there are blood banking facilities in two of the three accredited sites (and in the fourth site projected to join the network) but not essential. The post holder would be expected to manage Quality Indicators (e.g. IQC/EQA review), progress Quality Improvement Plans, be responsible for error/incident management, change management and Validation and Verification for all sites and participate in inter-laboratory collaborative working with the Quality Team.

On-site accommodation may be available depending on availability.  A relocation package may also be available.

For informal enquiries or to arrange a visit to the department:  Mr. Zeshan Mahmood - telephone 01463 704113 or email Zeshan.mahmood@nhs.scot
