As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services.  Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining Internationally competitive.
The role of the SNBTS Quality Directorate is to develop and deliver a Quality Management System throughout SNBTS, which satisfies regulatory requirements whilst ensuring a high quality, efficient transfusion process from “donor to patient”. Members of this team require to be forward thinking and imaginative with the drive and self-motivation to relish a challenge. 
A temporary part time vacancy for 12 months has arisen within the Quality Directorate, for the post of Quality Assurance Support Officer which is an NHS “keyworker” role. This is a part time role with flexibility within the specified 22.5 hours per week. The post will be based at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, albeit frequent travel between all Edinburgh SNBTS sites will be required, this includes the Blood Donor Centre at Lauriston place and the Jack Copland Centre at Heriot-Watt Research Park.
Applicants for this Post should be educated to at least Higher standard (by certificate) in at least 3 subjects, including English) and be formally qualified to Higher National Certificate standard or equivalent in an appropriate subject. They should have a high level of competence in office administration including excellent communication skills, personal organization and keyboard skills. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel) is also required and confidence working in a high-throughput office environment. An understanding of NHS Scotland and/or experience working in a healthcare environment would be advantageous. 
NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions apply to this post based on experience and qualifications. Currently there is no routine requirement for “out of hours” or shift working for this post. The successful candidate(s) must comply with the Mandatory Induction Standards and with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.
