Applications are invited for this permanent post in General Surgery with an interest in Colorectal Surgery. (10PA) based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with some sessions in the associated Ambulatory Care Hospitals. The QEUH is a modern teaching hospital situated in the south of Glasgow providing a range of high quality health care services. The QEUH is set to officially become a Major Trauma Centre in early 2021.
Specialist interest in Colorectal Surgery is essential and an interest in robotic surgery and advanced Cancer resection and care is desirable.
You will join a well-established team of Consultants dedicated to managing all aspects of General Surgical Disease with an interest in Colorectal Surgery.
Appointees will provide elective General Surgical services, and also manage Acute Surgical Emergencies. There may be an opportunity to participate in Trauma Care if desired. You will take a role in the development of General Surgical services and in enhancing the research aspirations of the department. All aspects of Surgery are well established on the QUEH site and you will be expected to possess the necessary skills to work closely with colleagues, participate in and develop the work of the unit.
In addition to providing clinical services the successful candidate will be required to participate in the training and assessment of junior staff and to undertake the administrative duties required in a consultant job. All consultants are required to have an annual appraisal.
Emergency Surgery for the post is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with clinics and elective surgery split between there, Gartnavel General and the New Victoria Hospitals.
Fully staffed Intensive Care and High dependency beds are available on the QEUH site. Clinical Nurse Specialists are valued members of the teams.
Applicants should have a broad surgical training and should have full GMC registration and eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register. trainees will have evidence of Higher Specialist Training leading to CCT, or be six months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
