An exciting opportunity has arisen within our busy cardiology departments, staffed by a friendly and committed team, who provide a comprehensive range of invasive and non-invasive cardiology investigations. These include Coronary Angiography, Primary PCI using up to date techniques, ICD, CRT-D, Pacemaker implantation and  follow-up, a Physiologist-led injectable loop implantation service,  Echocardiography including TTE & TOE, Physiologist-led stress testing including RACP and Chest Pain Clinics and a variety of ambulatory monitoring techniques, as well as a routine ECG service. A full range of pulmonary function tests are carried out within our department at Perth Royal Infirmary.


Applications are invited from post graduate students to apply for a trainee post, Band 5, as a Healthcare Science Practitioner by completing the Practitioner Trainee Programme (PTP) in Cardiac Science. Trainees will be working through academic study, practical skills and assessment to gain equivalence registration through Academy for Healthcare Science to become a Specialist Cardiac Physiologist, Band 6.


Candidates must have an equivalent honours degree for entry into this programme and completed a dissertation as part of their existing degree.


The equivalent degree requirements are:


  • Physiology / Anatomy & Physiology
  • Sports Medicine (Evidence of anatomy and physiology studies required)
  • Biomedical Science


Candidates must evidence their ability to study and learn practical skills in performing cardiac investigations through structured learning and accreditation. They will demonstrate sound knowledge in the role of Cardiac Physiology and demonstrate their commitment in gaining the knowledge and skills to become an independent practitioner. Clinical experience is desirable but not essential.
