An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a Head of Procurement to join NHSGGC’s established Procurement Team.


Reporting to and working closely with NHSGGC’s Assistant Director (Corporate and Production), the successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of NHSGGC‘s Procurement Strategy and Policies, leveraging new commercial opportunities and delivering measurable efficiencies in a challenging climate.


This role is fundamental and key to building on an already recognised high performing Procurement function to ensure that it continues to add value to improved value for money purchasing, expenditure management for the Board and at the same time find improved ways in which our Procurement team can operate efficiently and effectively within the operational accountability of their roles.  

As Head of Procurement for the largest Health Board Area in Scotland, you will be responsible for delivering a professional Procurement service for all Divisions, focused on consistent high quality service levels and delivering NHSGGC’s strategic targets.

The post holder  will be responsible for developing, presenting, planning, organising and implementing NHSGGC’s agreed Procurement Strategy aligned with Greater Glasgow & Clyde Corporate Plan and Acute Services and Health and Social Care Partnerships agendas, including identifying and incorporating best practice in the NHS and other sectors where appropriate.

This post requires strong influencing and leadership qualities and evidence of experience of working at strategic level in purchasing and supplies management in a healthcare or an equivalent, large scale, multi-discipline complex environment in the public or private sector. 

This is a high profile and challenging role operating in a complex and dynamic environment. The post holder has responsibility for best procurement practice being implemented for all NHSGGC non-medicine external commitments, and major West of Scotland medicine commercial and purchasing activities Zone and is expected to deliver multi-million pound savings per annum.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a significant proven track record in delivery of change management and strategic procurement and be able to demonstrate the ability to inspire confidence and respect to lead and deliver in a politically sensitive and demanding environment.


We are seeking to appoint an engaging ,inspiring and resilient leader who, can challenge conventional thinking, embrace change and has a genuine desire to continuously improve our Procurement service’s performance.


Our new Head of Procurement will bring demonstrable evidence of developing and implementing procurement strategy, leading  transformation and change, excellent people management skills and have the ability to work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders and encourage initiative, individual and team responsibility and open communication.


You will be a confident and motivated individual educated to degree level in a relevant subject (or ability to demonstrate significant level of equivalent & relevant experience) and be able to evidence continued professional development including operating within EU Procurement Regulations. You will hold an appropriate Professional Purchasing and Supplies qualification for example, Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Professional Diploma (MCIPS)/ Diploma of C.I.P.S. Project management qualification /training is desirable.
