Contract Duration: Fixed Term Until March 2023

Hours: 37.5 per week

Salary Scale: £26565 to 35577 per annum (2018/19 Pay Award Pending)

NHS Lothian has been commissioned for 2 years to provide trio-based whole exome sequencing (WES) for developmental delay disorders (DDD). The project requires the WES testing of 300 trios (~900 specimens) a year.

Applications are invited from Biological Sciences Graduates with specialist knowledge of Human Genetics for a 23 month fixed term post in the Edinburgh Genetic (WGH) Service.  The fully UKAS accredited laboratory provides both Regional and National Genetic Services.  Evidence of considerable expertise in conventional and next generation sequencing is essential.  Candidates should possess strong bioinformatics skills and knowledge and practical experience of preparing Next Generation Sequencing libraries and sequence enrichment by hybridization capture would be an advantage.  Preference will be given to appropriately skilled applicants with NHS laboratory experience.

The post holder will be expected to rise to the challenges associated with the delivery of highly complex NGS testing but will also be involved in routine diagnostic service work. We enjoy regular journal clubs, departmental seminar programmes and the lab is superbly equipped benefiting from a strong research background and excellent links with various research groups.
