These posts are being offered as part of the re-focusing of School Nursing in line with the national transformation agenda and offer applicants an excellent opportunity to join an evolving School Nursing Service in NHSFV.

There will be a requirement to undertake study at Master’s level, working towards a Post Graduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) – School Nursing pathway and registration on Part 3 of the NMC register.

The SCPHN School Nursing programme will be delivered by Queen Margaret University. You must fulfil criteria required by Queen Margaret University to undertake the programme at postgraduate level 11 – see university website. The course is offered full time over one year with time split 50:50 between academic study and practice placement. The course commences in September 2021, however the aim is to have successful candidates in post for a period of time to give valuable experience in practice prior to commencing academic study.

In the practice setting students will be supported by a Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor who will help them to develop a programme of learning experiences and who is responsible for supervision and assessment of competence. The learning outcomes of the modules are achieved by both university and practice based learning and are assessed by a variety of methods including written assignments, examination and professional portfolios of learning

Successful completion of the programme will lead to an offer of a Band 6 School Nurse post within NHS Forth Valley. Graduates will be expected to consolidate practice within NHS Forth Valley for two years post registration.

Applicants must be actively Registered Nurses or Midwives (with UK NMC) and have a passion for working with children and families and the public health agenda, be self-motivated practitioners and able to demonstrate an evidence based approach to practice.
