Gartnavel General Hospital is the West of Scotland regional centre for specialist Ophthalmology Services and the national centre for Ophthalmic Oncology. The Artificial Eye Department provides an important service for patients who have suffered loss of an eye due to trauma or disease (mostly eye cancer). The service provides artificial, prosthetic eyes, hand-painted and unique to each patient, which are manufactured in the on-site workshop and fitted at outpatient clinics. The department has a large, long-term patient caseload, as it manages patients’ artificial eye requirements on a lifelong basis. You will be one of only two staff members in the department and will be fully involved in the full range of activities associated with the service, under supervision of the Senior Orbital Prosthetist, including the process of manufacture for individualised prosthese and outpatient consultations for assessment, fitting and aftercare. You should have the relevant experience in the field of orbital prosthetics or similar. The post is fixed term for 3 months and the hours will be worked Monday to Friday.
