Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologist (GI Physiology)-Band 7 NHS Grampian
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologist who is committed to patient care at NHS Grampian. The applicant should have excellent communication skills, be self-driven and work well within a team. We have an established service led by a Healthcare Science Principal with 16 years’ experience in GI Physiology and is supported by an Associate Practitioner. We have excellent working relationships within the departments of Gastroenterology, General Surgery and Paediatrics which facilitates the opportunity for service development and expanding the service’s scope of practice.
The applicant would be contributing to the provision of a range of adult and paediatric investigations and would be expected to evidence competency in: adult oesophageal high resolution manometry, Impedance-pH, 24-hour pH, anorectal manometry and hydrogen breath testing in adults. The service also provides adult Endoanal ultrasound, anorectal manometry, 13C urea breath testing, Sphincter of Oddi manometry, Bravo pH testing. Paediatric investigations include: oesophageal manometry and Bravo pH testing. Experience in these tests would be an advantage but training can be provided. . The service also provides a small bowel capsule endoscopy and small bowel patency testing service and the successful candidate would be expected to be involved with the technical aspects of this service. Training in reporting tests would be provided if the applicant were interested in expanding their scope of practice.
There have been numerous abstracts presented at both National and International conferences including Digestive Diseases Week, Digestive Disorders Federation meeting and United Gastroenterology Week and the successful applicant would be encouraged to actively participate in clinical audit, service evaluation and research. The trust has a dedicated upper benign MDT that meets on a weekly basis to discuss complex cases. As a teaching hospital, staff are encouraged to expand their knowledge and skills and are supported to attend such meetings In order to facilitate professional development. There would be the opportunity to be involved in service development and research projects that would be submitted for presentation at local or international meetings. There will also be the opportunity to develop their leadership and management skills.
The post is a permanent part-time post (0.41WTE, 15 hours per week). Presently, clinics are performed between a Monday and Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm. The post holder should be registered either as a Clinical Scientist HCPC or The Council for Clinical Physiologists/Academy of Healthcare Scientists as a GI Clinical Physiologist.
Grampian is a wonderful location that appeals to the city dweller, those who enjoy the county or a bit of both! Aberdeen is a small city with all the required amenities such as large chain shops, cinemas, a large range of restaurants and first rate entertainment venues such as His Majesty’s theatre, The Music Hall and the P&J Live (The new exhibition centre). Aberdeen is a coastal city and so enjoys close proximity to many beautiful beaches and riverside walks. These also provide the outdoor sportsperson to enjoy rowing, surfing, canoeing and golf. There are many places of interest within easy travelling distance including Castle trails, (Including Cruden Bay’s Slains castle that was used for Netflix’s series “The Crown”) whiskey trails and museums. For those with an appetite for hiking, rock climbing and winter sports, excellent areas and facilities are available within Aberdeen city and within close driving distance such as: Glenshee, the breath taking Cairngorm mountains and Lochnagar, Royal Deeside which is adjacent to the Balmoral estate, including the summer residence of Her Majesty The Queen.
