An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Surgical Nurse Practitioner (or trainee annexe 21) [SNP] to join our Surgical Receiving Team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Our SNP’s assess patients, order and analyse test results, prescribe treatment by protocol and monitor the effectiveness of the treatment prescribed, in liaison with medical staff. You will regularly review the patient’s condition and the required re-evaluation of patients’ needs, ensuring each patient has a comprehensive ongoing management plan. You will competently perform the necessary technical, invasive, physical assessments and plan of care for this defined patient group. You will independently utilise a broad range of advanced knowledge, skills and theory in the initial physical assessment, history taking, provisional diagnosis and treatment of surgical patients. A fundamental part of your SNP role is the early recognition of clinical deterioration and initiation of early management interventions to existing patients, escalating this to surgical medical staff timeously. You will possess (or undertake) a Qualification in History Taking and Physical Examination, or you will have Clinical Assessment (SCQF Level 9). Experience of working in a Nurse Practitioner role is preferred but not essential. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and that you have acquired significant post registration experience in a surgical or critical care environment. Ideally you would be able to study to Degree level, and an existing qualification at Degree level would be advantageous. Scope for further study within this role towards Master’s Degree /Advanced Practice will be encouraged; examples of this would include IRMER and Non-Medical Prescribing.
