We are looking to appoint an NHS Locum Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry in South Ayrshire covering the areas  of North Ayr, Prestwick and Troon. Serving a population of approximately 11000 Older people in a largely suburban catchment area with which has both areas of deprivation and significant affluence, you will join 6 other consultant colleagues in delivering a comprehensive mental health service for older people in NHS Ayrshire & Arran, along with two Old Age Liaison Psychiatry posts covering the General Hospitals.

The post will be based at the Ailsa Hospital where the Community Mental Health Team is also based. Inpatient beds are within Woodland View, Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine, with responsibility for a shared proportion of these inpatient beds. The post also had Consultant/RMO responsibility for an NHS Complex Clinical Care functional ward with 16 beds where the post holder also has Specialty Doctor support. The post holder will supervise a Care Home Liaison Nurse who covers the patients in this catchment area.
The Consultant group in NHS Ayrshire & Arran are a proactive and supportive group who meet regularly, with additional peer group meetings and internal teaching. 

If the post holder has Educational Supervisor approval, there is also an opportunity to supervise trainees in this post.  The post holder will have an office, and suitable IT facilities (with remote access).  All new Consultants are initially offered a minimum of 1 PA for personal development in relation to appraisal and revalidation. 

Appropriately experienced applicants must have Full GMC Registration and current Licence to Practice, and have the requisite qualification to perform their duties, including approval under Section 22 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.

The terms and conditions of service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 and are offered on a 10 Programmed Activity basis. Opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities subject to service requirements.
