CONSULTANT IN SPINAL CORD INJURY

QUEEN ELIZABETH UNIVERISTY HOSPITAL

We are seeking to recruit a Consultant in Spinal Cord Injury to be based at the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit (QENSIU) for Scotland, which is located on the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Campus in Glasgow. The post is available to start as soon as the successful applicant is available. The post holder will be expected to play a full part in running the well-established National Service, managing the care of patients from across Scotland within our world class Spinal Injuries Unit.

The successful candidate will work with the existing team based within the QENSIU. The team consists of three consultants in spinal cord injury (including this post), a specialty doctor, specialist nurses, ward based nurses, AHPs and clerical staff. This post is a proleptic appointment ahead of an anticipated retiral allowing opportunity to work with the specialist consultant and ensure a smooth transition for the service.

The QENSIU is responsible for the management of all patients in Scotland who have a traumatic injury to the spinal cord. Commissioned in 1992 it has continued to develop the management of the acute injury and life time care of all of its patients to maximise function and to prevent the complications of paralysis. Facilities include a combined Admission Ward and HDU (Edenhall Ward), and a Rehabilitation Ward (Philipshill Ward), with a Respiratory Care Unit. In addition there is a custom built Step-Down Unit for patients and relatives and Research Mezzanine (University of Glasgow) which ensures that researchers are embedded in the Unit. Clinical services are provided at the QENSIU in Glasgow and appropriate outreach clinics as required.

You will be appropriately experienced and qualified in the specialty, fully registered with a license to practice with the GMC and either included on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of completion of your Specialist training or CESR (CP).
