Over recent years NHS Tayside has committed to increased investment in the Area Psychological Therapies Service. The Service now has a complement of around 160 clinical and applied staff with an additional 20 trainees. Opportunity exists to combine a number of specialist posts to reflect career interests of suitable applicants. The Department provides a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment in which to work. Opportunities exist for involvement in teaching and research, taking advantage of close links with Universities of Dundee and Stirling. Members of the Department also contribute to the supervision and training of trainees on the Edinburgh/East and South of Scotland Clinical Teaching Course, the Universities of Stirling and Dundee MSc Course and the Child course.

The Clinical/Forensic Psychology Service operates within the NHS Tayside Mentally Disordered Offenders Service. This service is based at Murray Royal Hospital, Perth and comprises of trained Clinical/Forensic Psychologists, CBT therapist and two assistant psychologist posts. The service comprises of a regional wide forensic mental health service, providing psychological services to a medium secure in-patient unit, comprising of three wards and a total of 32 male beds. The medium secure service provides regional inpatient medium secure beds for male patients from the North of Scotland Health Boards excluding Western Isles (Grampian, Highland, Orkney, Shetland and Tayside). Psychological provision is also provided to the NHS Tayside low secure service (i.e. 24 beds) and a community service.
The assistant psychologists working in this speciality will assist the work of Clinical/Forensic Psychologists and other psychological therapists. The post-holders would be expected, under supervision, to assess and provide psychological interventions, and co-facilitate group work for users of the service. The post-holders will also be expected to assist in clinically related administration, conduct research and clinical audits. Clinical and management supervision will be provided by the Consultant/Clinical Psychologist.
